The creative industries are established at the intersection of business and culture, the point where artistic/cultural ambitions meet economic realisation. This sphere comprises the development of ideas, their actual realisation and distribution. The economic significance of the creative industries has risen steeply in recent years. Statistik Austria summarises the main results of data collections and surveys about Austria’s cultural life in the Kulturstatistik (cultural statistics). The data include theatres and festivals, music schools, the mass media and a multifarious range of cultural activities.

The EU’s statistical information service, Eurostat, publishes an annual Eurostat yearbook with statistical information about the European Union and its member states (free access to all Eurostat data and publications).
