School and Youth Activities
Schools are called upon to convey knowledge to their students in a manner that enables young people to make
active use of it. A stockpile of basic knowledge represents the foundation for further learning. Good quality classroom
instruction needs to also convey the following skills: recognizing causal relationships, acquiring specialised
knowledge without outside help, putting information in context and making creative new associations between known
facts. These are essential components in the development of excellent solution skills.
Cultural activities represent an important educational offer for young people when it comes to awakening
curiosity and making knowledge acquisition fun. Attractively designed museums make an important contribution in this
context with their special educational programmes for children, young people and students. Examples of museums in
Vienna that offer a broad range of related activities are the Naturhistorisches Museum (Museum of Natural History), the
Museumsquartier and the Technisches Museum (Museum of Technology).
Activities such as the Vienna-Campaign or projects such as `Kulturelles
Erbe. Gestalte die Zukunft´ are designed to help students become acquainted with their cultural heritage and to sharpen
their awareness of the connections between yesterday, today and tomorrow.
